Jonas looked around. They were on the edge of the industrial district. To the north, where Mark seemed to be aiming as he ran, the buildings were lower. They had pitched roofs, largely, and it would be hard not to be seen scrambling across them. The network of narrow allies was promising, however. They wound, were nearly deserted, and the roofs around them would make it difficult for a pursuer to keep an eye on them from above.
"Keep running," Jonas said, "I only got one of the people following you. Get to the ground , these roofs aren't workable."
This was a bit much for Mark, but certain key words occupied his focus. Primarily 'run.' He aimed for the pitched roof to the north.
Just as he started his sprint, a blonde man with a face carved of anger pulled himself up over the roof. Jonas wound back and threw a matte black blade in one fluid motion. As the knife flew at the man's face, his skin lost its healthy tone and took on an ashy-black sheen. (Standard roll: 8 Target: 9 Result: Success)
Whatever armor the man had constructed, it rang as the knife bit into his face. Jagged cracks appeared in his skin, oozing blood. He roared, and instinctively clutched his ruined eye socket with one hand.
Jonas struck once more, targeting the hand still supporting his prey (Easy roll: 6 Target: 4 Result: Success). The knife found it's home in the main muscle bundle of the man's hand, and he fell. His body crashed down on that of his companion just as the first cop car screeched to a halt at the mouth of the alley.
Jonas turned just in time to see Mark take his leap (Easy Roll: 2 Target: 0 Result: Success). Mark landed easily on the pitched roof, and slid down into the north-south alley.
(Mark: I think you're right, that power is called alteration.
+1 xp to each of you. Total of three. Just tell me in your comments when you want to spend. We can work the kinks out as we go, so even if you only have a rough idea, it's doable.
Anywho...What do you do?)
I continue running along the alleyways, heading towards the park. (Not much for me to do here, other than that. So I can just spend the XP and have my ability manifest? If so, not yet. But at the first level, I was thinking maybe being able to detect radio waves, and mess with devices close to me, like making a radio not work. I'll wait till I'm not running away to manifest my power.)
ReplyDeleteI run after Mark jumping to the lower roof and into the alley. (5)
ReplyDeleteIf Mark continues to run I plan to follow him for a while, since we need to put some distance between us and the cops. I know that running after we exit the alley will only draw unwanted attention, so I try to catch and start a conversation with Mark before we exit the alleyways. (9)
Regarding Abilities:
(I'm not spending xp yet, just clarifying the possibilities) I'm leaning toward a sound alteration ability. For 1 xp, would I be able to gain the ability to isolate an area of variable radius (up to 15 ft radius)? Maybe a slightly larger range if I'm inside a room and can use the walls to help. The idea being no sound can enter or exit the area. In exchange for an almost guaranteed success when I use this ability I was thinking it should also make me unable to hear anything outside the active zone. As my ability develops I was thinking of developing the ability for me to be able to detect (hear at a range) sounds outside the zone. This could also lead to an extended hearing range and a sonar type of ability.
I think the power as you described is pretty good. Kicks ass in a nicely balanced way.
DeleteWorking on the next page, but might not be ready tonight.
It occurs to me my outfit is suited for hiding on rooftops, but would be rather conspicuous at ground level. As I run down the alley I keep an eye out for a shirt/sweatshirt/jacket hanging on a clothesline I might be able to wear over my outfit. If I find something suitable (8) I take it and put it on and take down my hood.
DeleteDid Orux give me any other information about why he wants me to find Novac, other than that he needs the info Novac just obtained?
ReplyDeleteAs a matter of fact, he did not. Of course, you can ask him telepathically. If you like, I'll work you filling Orux in and asking him what just the hell's going on into the next page.
DeleteThanks, please do that
DeleteOne more questions regarding spending xp: Can we, theoretically, buy our way from impossible all the way down to automatic on any given roll?
ReplyDeleteYou know, I hadn't thought of that? I suppose it is theoretically possible. You see glimpses of that in the story 'The Zombie Knight.' I might charge an extra amount of points for buying down from impossible to hard+3, for instance. I'll give it some thought. For now I will say I think that it is theoretically possible.
Delete(Sorry for not being active)
ReplyDeleteDavid waited patiently with yanu and made Pentagonal carvings on the oak with his newly discovered ability when he heard loud disturbances in the ally the "tourists" disappeared into. Not wanting to act too hastily he waited for a climax. After seeing figures running on rooftops he decides that Novac's servant is outnumbered and decides to pursue.4
No worries, this is pretty chill. One thing though, to clarify.
DeleteJonas and Mark are fleeing toward the park, where David is. David can only hear the commotion in the near distance.
Whoever the tourists is, he's apparently waiting for the action to come to you guys.
So while the chase is going on, you wait at the finish line, and have to figure out what to do about the tourist, hopefully before everyone else arrives. Ignoring him until back up arrives is, of course, a viable option.
Hey guys, its been a while since I last saw a post here. I understand real life may get busy, but could I get an update on the game's status.
